Pumice Filtration Media is a low-density media typically used in multi-media filters to enhance the capacity of the filter and to remove smaller micron particles. Pumice sits as the top layer in a multi-media filter and is widely used for pre-treatment in desalination and seawater reverse osmosis plants (SWRO). For further detailed information on our Pumice Filtration Media

Applications of our Pumice Products
- Pumice Water Filtration
- Pumice Lightweight Aggregate
- Pumice for Cosmetics
- Pumice Metal Finishing
- Pumice Odour Control
Pumice in modern times has been seen to be a cost effective replacement to traditional materials such as anthracite and sand in applications such as; Portable Water Treatments, Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO), Desalination. Pumice can be used for both new and refurbished plants. As pumice is lightweight, operating costs are reduced in Rapid Gravity or Pressure Filters due to the (approximately 30%) backwash requirements.
Pumice in water filtration can be used in mono or multi media filters.Potable Water Filtration; pumice filtration media is widely used in multimedia filters to treat potable water intended for human consumption. All our pumice filtration media has British Standard approval (BS EN 12906-2005) and UK Drinking Water Inspectorate approval.
Additionally our pumice filtration media is NSF-61 approved and meets all the chemical and physical testing requirements for AWWA B-100 and DIN EN 12906
Pumice Aggregate is seen as a preferred choice to other materials due to its weight, where the pumice is a third lighter than other materials. When the pumice is used in a concrete mix, it increases the elasticity of the product, providing a more flexible compound, this is beneficial for high rise buildings which have to cope with additional natural elements like wind forces.Pumice Aggregate is a user friendly product for the workforce when completing tasks such as drilling or sawing.
Pumice in construction was originally used by the Romans circa 10AD. Pumice aggregate was used to create a lightweight concrete mixture, most famously The Pantheon in Rome used pumice within its structure.
Pumice Products have a variety of uses within the cosmetic industry, most famously as a natural exfoliant. The texture of pumice powders and grains allows the skin to feel fresh and revitalised after a single use. Dependent on the grading, the pumice powders and grains can be used as facial or body scrubs. As pumice is a natural raw mineral, it has a neutral pH and that is not only good for your skin, but equally for the environment too.
Advantages
- Neutral pH
- Environmentally Friendly
- Skin Exfoliant
- Removes dead skin

Pumice is used as natural Polishing Media. In the jewellery trade, pumice is widely used as a buffering media. The pumice is good for annealing large work pieces.
For more specialist applications, a light action using the pumice produces a smooth finish on the softest of metals. The microscopic action of the pumice particles creates a surface ideal for maximum adhesion of coatings in aluminium extrusions.
Pumice Odour Control Media is a granular naturally occurring product that is a suitable alternative to peat/heather, wood chips, plastic media or shells for use in bio-filters, bio-scrubbers and packed towers. It is used to treat odours emanating from sewage treatment works, wastewater treatment works, industrial processes and industrial effluents.Pumice Media is rapidly replacing the traditional biomass support systems of peat/heather, wood chip and mussel shells.
Not actively participating in the biological process pumice is not “consumed” in the manner of the alternatives and therefore has a much longer life (typically greater than 15 years). It does not compact and retains its original low pressure drop and hence low running costs.
